A Nice Story On A Cold Monday Morning

Scott Litton - ATP / Billings, MT
A patient came in a few weeks ago to talk with me about cushions. In the past year she had gotten a new chair and cushion from a different vendor but her back has been in so much pain ever since. The previous vendor had tried a few cushions but nothing worked for her. So I loaned her a few cushions to try, and she came back and still nothing seemed to help. So I showed her the Vector X and how it was customizable. I told her to not make a judgment when she first sat on it but to try play around with it and try it in a few different ways and to give it a chance. I let her take our demo cushion home for the weekend so that she could play around with it. She called me back that Monday morning and was so ecstatic. She said she had to adjust the cushion a lot, and take a lot of cells out but it was the first time that she has sat in her chair and not had back pain in a very long time! We worked with her insurance and we were able to get her a new Vector X. It was so nice having that cushion in stock. The same day we got the approval to get her a new cushion, She was able to come in and pick up the cushion!

I had to readjust cells and add more while still feeling uncomfortable. I've had three of these before and this one was hard right out of the box. Made me lean back at an awkward position. Not pleased. First ones were cushionee for many months before adjusting but not sure about this one. Can't seem to find any answers why.

I have used a 3 different style cushions in my 9 years using a wheelchair. The Vector X right in the middle of the 3. It is sturdy and supports me well without hurting my balance (T11 SCI). The problem that I have with it, and its a big problem, is that the small air pocket cells go flat!. In one year using the cushion I was down to approximately 75 pockets still with air. That's over half of the "indestructible" pockets going flat. I understand that I am not the lightest person or the most gentle person but I think that is ridiculous for this to happen. I weight about 215 and use a TiLite Aero Z wheelchair. On the good side of things, being able to compartmentalize the pockets to add cushion to some places is great.
